On Saturday, two Science Research seniors (Ellie Yang and Imogen Drake) presented at the sub-regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium competition. I am very proud to announce that they both placed 2nd in their divisions. They will both be going on to the regional competition in March at UAlbany.
Since 2015 (when we first had seniors to compete) we have had 7 students place at this competition.
We also compete at the Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair in March (at RPI- first attendance 2016). This is a larger competition where students are competing against the entire group (80-100 students) for awards and placements. At that competition we have had one student place 3rd overall, one place 4th overall, and have won other individual awards each year (a total of 11 individual awards).
I am very proud of the hard work and dedication our students have shown over the years. If you see Imogen or Ellie in the hall, please congratulate them and wish them well in the next phase.

Taconic Hills High School’s Science Research program is pleased to be able to share with our community the culmination of three years of intensive research work completed by two of our student scientists.
On Friday, January 21st at 6pm at the Roe Jan Library, Imogen Drake and Ellie Yang will present their research findings. Imogen has been working with a psychology professor from the University of California on the impact of traumatic brain injury on the development of psychological disorders. Not only has Imogen assisted him in writing one of his papers, but she has also completed her own research and will be presenting her findings about the impact of traumatic brain injury on the development of anxiety. Ellie has been working with Dr. Claudia Knab-Vispo from the Hawthorn Valley Farmscape Ecology Program for the past 3 years. This is the second experiment Ellie has completed as part of their research, following up on last year’s work on duckweed growth factors. This year, Ellie will be sharing with us their findings on the differences between duckweed grown in a laboratory setting and duckweed growing in the wild. We look forward to sharing the hard work and interesting results of our students’ efforts. Come see science in action!

Shared Decision Making Meeting will be held in S112 in the Junior/Senior High School. Everyone in the school community is invited to attend. Please RSVP with Jessica Miller by email at jmiller1@taconichills.k12.ny.us if you are interested in attending.
