The annual District Budget Vote & Board of Education Election is May 21, 2024 from 12PM-9PM in the Veterans Community Room

Board of Education Election

This year we have two (2) five-year terms commencing on July 1, 2024 and expiring on June 30, 2029 to succeed Board Member, Joseph Costa, and Board Member, Alicia O’Rourke, whose term will expire on June 30, 2024.

Candidates

Joseph Costa

Joe has resided with his family in Claverack for the past 57 years. He has served on the Board of Education for 15 years. He is a TH Alumni, and his wife recently retired from the District as a Bus Driver. Joe is an automotive technician, and loves to support local businesses. He enjoys the outdoors, specifically fishing and camping. Joe is committed to instilling the importance of the students’ voices in education.

Jeanine Earnhart

Jeanine and her family have lived in Philmont for the past 10 years. Her two daughters currently attend Taconic Hills. Jeanine is a sales associate on an organic farm & feed mill. She is an avid nature lover, hiking, biking, and gardening in her spare time. Jeanine is dedicated to building a stronger connection between the board of education, parents, teachers, and the community.

Voter Qualifications

You are a qualified voter if you are:

  • U.S Citizen.

  • 18 years of age by May 21, 2024

  • Resident of the district for 30 days or more directly preceding the vote

  • Registered to vote with either the district or the Columbia County Board of Elections

Early Voting by Mail & Absentee Ballots
Voters who are unable to vote in person on May 21, 2024 may submit an application to vote by absentee ballot. Complete the Absentee Ballot Application Here.

Registered voters who wish to vote early by mail may submit an application to vote by mail-in ballot. Complete the Early Mail Ballot Application Here.

Early Voting / Absentee Ballots must be returned to the District Clerk no later than 5PM on the day of the vote, Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Budget Information

Proposition 1. 2024-2025 Budget

Shall the Board of Education of the Taconic Hills Central School District be authorized to expend the sums set forth in the budget, for the 2024-2025 school year, in the amount of $40,284,996.00 and to levy the necessary tax therefor? 

Proposition 2. Funding of Capital Reserve

Shall the Board of Education of the Taconic Hills Central School District be authorized to (a) fund the Capital Reserve Fund in the amount of $3,000,000.00, to be used for capital improvements or equipment, at a cost not to exceed $10,000,000.00; (b) and to expend $3,000,000.00 from the unallocated fund balance?

Proposition 3. Capital Improvement Project - Building & Site Improvements

Shall the Board of Education be authorized to (a) reconstruct various District buildings and District sites, perform miscellaneous site work and improvements at various locations, and acquire original furnishings, equipment, machinery or apparatus required for the purpose for which such buildings are to be used, including but not limited to replacement of roofing above the Lyle G. Hamm Performing Arts Center and replacement of HVAC unit above Aquatic Center and pay incidental costs related thereto at a maximum estimated cost of $2,130,000.00 (b) expend such sum for such purpose; and (c) expend $2,130,000.00 from the Capital Reserve Fund?

Proposition 4. Purchase of School Vehicles and Buses

Shall the Board of Education be authorized to (a) acquire three (3) small buses (two regular, one handicap),  two (2) SUVs and one (1) truck with plow and at a maximum aggregate cost of $515,000.00; (b) expend such sums for such purpose; (c) expend from the unallocated fund balance; and (c) levy the necessary tax therefor, to be levied and collected in such amounts as may be determined by the Board of Education taking into account state aid received?
