Hi! I’m happy to report that 6 of our TH students have been accepted to participate in the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute (PR/HYLI)! A Leadership Institute from January 11-March 9, 2020 that meets on Saturdays for trainings (6 weekend trainings) and 1 big weekend event on March 7-9 where there is a program of leadership opportunities.
Dates for Saturday trainings: 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/29 (9am-3pm) – transportation and meals included
March 7-9 event is an overnight fieldtrip that includes a leadership training day at SUNY Albany on Saturday, March 7th, a Mock Assembly and awards dinner on Sunday, March 8th, and visits to local representatives on Monday, March 9th. *Priority for attending this weekend event is given to Seniors, but underclassmen are encouraged to participate in the Leadership Institute trainings because they can attend for multiple years and be well-prepared as Seniors.
PR/HYLI awards several scholarships each year to seniors in the Institute.
All participants will learn more about leadership, public speaking, and government processes in order to promote more Latino participation in our political system.
It is completely free to students; grant-funded including transportation, food, and scholarship opportunities.
