2018 Valedictorian and Salutatorian at Taconic Hills

James Buhrmaster, Principal and Mary D’Amico, Assistant Principal of the Taconic Hills Junior Senior High School are proud to announce the Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the graduating class of 2018.

Riley Decker, daughter of Mark and Lori Decker, has been named the Valedictorian of Taconic Hills Junior Senior High School. She is an integral member of the student body of Taconic Hills as well as a natural leader. Decker is president of the Senior Class and currently a member of the National Honor Society, Taconic Hills Select Choir, and Drama Club. She has been actively involved in the Taconic Hills Drama Club since sixth grade, performing in plays, musicals, and Shakespeare productions. She portrayed the character of Cosette in her school’s musical production of Les Misérables. Riley has participated in several NYSSMA and All County festivals, and enjoys snowboarding and dogs. In 2017, she was awarded the Rensselaer Medalist Award from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the Clarkson Leadership Award. Riley will attend Colgate University in the fall.Charles Howard

Charles G. Howard, son of Virginia and Michael Howard of Claverack and the older brother of Griffin and Winston Howard, has been named the Salutatorian of Taconic Hills Junior Senior High School.  Charles is a recipient of the College Board AP Scholar with Honor Award, achieving a 4.25 average on his AP Exams. He was the winner of the RIT Computing Medal Scholarship award and is the Co-President of the National Honor Society. Charles participated in Operation Wallacea on the island of Dominica. Charles has worked at Club Helsinki in Hudson for 4 years and is also a lifeguard at the Taconic Hills Pool. Charles competes in 4 Varsity Sports; Soccer, Basketball, Tennis and Track. Charles will attend Davidson College in the fall. He plans on studying Environmental Studies, English, or Economics.
