COLD WAR VETERANS' EXEMPTION (adopted 2/14/18)
Taconic Hills Central School District offers a school tax exemption on the primary residence of eligible Cold War Veterans residing within the school district. Columbia County and all the Towns within the school district offer the Veterans Exemption as well.
The follow scale is used for computing the district’s Cold War Veterans Exemption:
Cold War Veterans
$12,000 or product of $12,000 multiplied by latest state equalization rate for assessing unit, whichever is less
Cold War Veterans with Service Related Disability
$40,000 or product of $40,000 multiplied by latest state equalization rate for assessing unit, whichever is less
Also, no Cold War Veteran receiving an exemption under Sections 458 (Veterans Exemption) or 458-a (Alternative Veterans Exemption) of the Real Property Tax Law may be eligible for this exemption.
This exemption will apply to Cold War Veteran owners of qualifying real property for as long as they remain qualifying owners of that real property, regardless of the length of ownership.
If you already receive a Veterans Exemption at the Town and/or County level, you do not need to take any further action to have this exemption applied to your school tax bill. Applications must be filed with the appropriate Town Assessor’s office by March 1st only if this is the first time you are seeking this exemption.
