• VETERANS' EXEMPTION (adopted 1/21/15)

Taconic Hills Central School District offers a school tax exemption on the primary residence of eligible veterans residing within the school district. Columbia County and all the Towns within the school district offer the Veterans’ Exemption as well.

The follow scale is used for computing the district’s Veterans’ Exemption:

Wartime 15%, not to exceed $12,000
Combat Additional 10%, not to exceed $8,000 more
Disability 1/2 of disability rating received by VA or DoD, up to $40,000

In addition, Gold Star Parents, defined as those parents whose child died in the line of duty while serving in the United States Armed Forces during a period of war, shall be considered a “qualified owner” for purposes of eligibility for the Alternative Veterans’ Exemption.

If you already receive a Veterans’ Exemption at the Town and/or County level, you do not need to take any further action to have this exemption applied to your school tax bill. Applications must be filed with the appropriate Town Assessor’s office only if this is the first time you are seeking this exemption.
