GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) or 504 Accommodations may be eligible for exceptions based on individual needs and should work closely with their school counselor to determine requirements.

 REGENTS DIPLOMA WITH ADVANCED DESIGNATION:

Depending on the pathway a student chooses,  the  Regents diploma with advanced designation assessment requirements may be met in a multiple ways.  Students seeking the Regents diploma with advanced designation   may choose from the following assessment options:

 Traditional Combination: ELA, Global History and Geography, US History and Government, 3 mathematics, 2 science, (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science) = 8 Assessments.   In addition the student must choose either 2 additional  credits in LOTE and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam OR  a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or CTE.


Pathway Combination (other than STEM):ELA, 1 social studies, 3 Math, 2 Science (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science), 1 Pathway (other than Science or math) or complete the requirements for the CDOS Commencement Credential = 7 or 8 Assessments    In addition the student must choose either 2 additional  credits in LOTE and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam OR a 5 unit sequence.

 STEM (Mathematics) Pathway Combination:  ELA, 1 social studies, 4 math, 2 Science (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science) = 8 Assessments In addition the student must choose either 2 additional  credits in LOTE STEM (Mathematics)  Pathway Combination:  and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam or a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or CTE.

 STEM (Science) Pathway Combination:  ELA, 1 social studies, 3 math, 3 science (1 must be life science and 1 must be physical science) = 8 Assessments   In addition the student must choose either 2 additional  credits in LOTE and the locally developed Checkpoint B LOTE Exam OR a 5 unit sequence in the Arts or CTE.

 

Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation

In addition to the requirements for Regents Diploma, a student must pass:

  • Two additional credits in a LOTE  (Language other than English) and a Regents exam equivalency in a LOTE  or 5 credits of the   Arts or CTE .

  • Students must pass all three Math Regents exams in: Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II 

 Two Science Regents Exams are required for Advanced Designation; one must be in life science and one in physical science.

 Students who first enter grade nine in September 2009 and thereafter who complete all course work and testing requirements for the Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation in mathematics and/or science, and who pass, with a score of 85 or better, three commencement level Regents examinations in mathematics and /or three commencement level Regents examinations in science, will earn a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, with an annotation on the diploma that denotes master in mathematics and/or science, as applicable.

 A Regents Diploma with honors or a Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation with Honors will be awarded to a student who achieves an average of 90 percent in all Regents examinations required for the diploma, averages are not allowed to be rounded up.

 NYSED provides for approved pathway assessments in STEM which are acceptable for meeting the requirements for a Regents diploma. The list may be found at:

 Allowable Alternative Assessments

 Attendance BOE Policy 5100 & 5130 (excerpt)

At the junior school/senior high school level, any student with 12 absences in a 1/2 year course or 24 absences in a full year course may not receive credit for the course. District procedures will specify how student tardiness and early departures will be calculated and factored into the District’s minimum attendance standard. Upon the 12th (1/2 year course) or 24th (full year course) absence, the Faculty Council will convene to review the circumstances prior to denial of course credit. The student and his/her parent/guardian will be invited to attend the Faculty Council review.

Additionally, students between the ages of sixteen and seventeen are required to attend school until the last day of session in the school year in which they become seventeen, unless they are employed.
