    Frequently Asked Questions

    How will students and parents access instructional plans and materials?

    Students in grades 1 - 12 have been issued computers for home instructional use.  Teachers will direct lessons and activities through a variety of platforms such as Google Classroom, Zoom, and other district approved software products. In addition to computer activities, some paper packet materials for elementary students may be provided.  Parents will be alerted via email and robo call if additional educational materials are available for pick up in the ES office. It is best to call ahead prior to picking materials up at the Elementary School (518-325-2820).  

     

    Will students with special needs be provided education while classes are cancelled?

    The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSER) have communicated that schools may not be able to provide all services in the same manner as they have been during this national emergency. With parents as our partners, we will make our best effort to ensure that all students are learning during this time. Special Education case managers will be communicating with families on how meetings will be scheduled to meet eligibility and IEP timelines.     How can I communicate with my child’s teacher?

    Email is the best method for communication with your child’s teacher.  The staff directory and email addresses can be accessed on the School Directory.

     

    Can a parent/guardian or student get into the building to obtain school supplies?

    At this time, the buildings are closed to all visitors, parents, guardians, and students. Educational materials may be picked up at the ES transaction window.  It is best to call ahead prior to picking materials up at the Elementary School (518-325-2820).  

     

    I am considered an essential service provider/worker.  Does the school district provide childcare for my children?

    The school district offers Childcare for the children of essential service providers/workers. For more information regarding eligibility and program hours, please contact Lisa Reis at lreis@taconichills.k12.ny.us

     

    How can I pick up my child’s medication at school?

    If you need your child’s medication, please email Kathy Keyser, School Nurse. Her contact information can be found on the School Nurse section of our website.

     

    When will school buildings open again?

    The timing of reopening school buildings will be based on direction received from New York State Education Department and the Governor’s Office.  

     

    Are staff members allowed into the buildings?

    Staff members may be allowed in the building with prior approval from a building administrator or supervisor. 

     

    Is the District Office open?

    District Office personnel are available. The preferred method of communication is by email. District Office contact information can be found on the School Directory.

     

    Are all spring sports cancelled?

    All activities have been cancelled through April 15th including practices and scrimmages. If spring activities are reinstated, families will be notified through email, phone and text message. 

     

    Will graduation be cancelled?

    It is not known how graduation ceremonies will be conducted based on the current pandemic. We will continue to monitor guidelines set forth by the local and national authorities regarding group gatherings. Discussions are occurring on how to recognize the accomplishments of graduating seniors should current restrictions remain in place.

     

    Has testing been cancelled?

    New York State Education Department (NYSED) is suspending all NYS Elementary- and Intermediate-Level State Assessments for the remainder of the school year in response to the statewide closures of schools and districts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  Regents Exams have not been canceled as of now. We expect to get word on these exams by April 7th. Read More

    Will the school year be extended?

    Current plans are to follow the 2019-20 calendar approved by the school board and to complete the school year on time. 

     

    Are the playgrounds, tennis courts and track open? Can I use the WiFi?

    In order to limit exposure to the Coronavirus, the playground is closed. The tracks, tennis courts and grassy areas are closed to limit the exposure to the Coronavirus. We will continue to monitor guidance from the CDC and local, state and federal agencies. WiFi is available on campus for school-related activities, however guests should remain in their vehicle.

     

    How do I access the food program for free breakfast and lunch?

    During this period of canceled classes, Taconic Hills is providing breakfast and lunch to any child in our school district through age 18.  Food deliveries take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and consist of 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches. Buses will stop at your child’s AM (Morning) bus stop approximately 3 hours after his/her regular pick up time.   

     

    What schedule should Junior Senior High School students follow?

    In order to cut down on the number of classes per day and to help eliminate some stress the Jr. Sr. High School will be running a modified online block schedule starting April 6th.  The schedule can be viewed by following this link. Jr Sr HS Remote Learning Schedule
