New Information for 2016 - 2017 STAR
As part of the 2016-17 NYS Budget, The STAR school property tax exemption is being transitioned to a new personal income tax credit (PIT) program. If you had a STAR exemption on your property for the 2015-16 school tax bill, you may stay in the STAR program, Basic or Enhanced, as long as you continue to meet the eligibility requirements, and stay in your current home.
Any questions about existing STAR exemption should be directed to your town assessor.
If you purchased your home after March 2, 2015, you are not eligible for the STAR school property tax exemption, but you may register with New York State for the PIT credit/check program. Please click on the link below for more information.
Direct questions about new STAR application to NYS Dept. of Taxation and Finance at (518) 457-2063.

Here are a few tips to make sure that your school tax bills are processed efficiently:
*Property owners are responsible to make sure that payments are received on time and in the correct amount. Partial payments cannot be accepted and will be returned.
*If you do not receive your school tax bill by the second week of September, please contact the tax collector immediately to avoid possible penalties.
*If you receive a tax bill and you feel that your bank, or escrow agency, should have received it, please contact your bank or agency immediately so they can process payment on time and avoid any penalties for late payment. If you have paid your mortgage in full and no longer have an escrow account, but have not received your school tax bill, please contact the tax collector immediately so that you can have a copy sent to you for timely payment.
The school Tax Collector’s office is open from 8:00am until 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
We can be reached at email@example.com or by telephone at (518) 325-2815.
